RBI Youth Key to Spreading Awareness on Financial Frauds via Social Media

27th February2025: PHDCCI, under the aegis of its Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) Committee, organized an awareness program on financial frauds at Jagan Institute of Management Studies (JIMS), Rohini, Delhi. The programme was supported by the Reserve Bank of India Ombudsman’s Office and JIMS, Rohini that aimed at raising awareness amongst youth about different types of financial frauds.

Present on this occasion were senior officials of RBI including Mr. Brijlal Singh, Deputy General Manager & Deputy Ombudsman, RBI, Delhi; Dr. Pooja Jain, Director, JIMS, Rohini; Dr. R. K. Singh, Dean PGDM RM, JIMS, Rohini; Ms. Priti Singh, Assistant Manager, RBI; Mr. Simranjit Singh, RBI ; Ms. Babeeta Sharma, Senior Secretary, PHDCCI and Mr. Sanjay Ahuja, Joint Secretary, PHDCCI.

Mr. Brijlal Singh emphasised that in today’s digital age everyone is vulnerable to frauds. The only way to protect one is through awareness and precautions, as fraud takes many forms. Driven by ignorance, greed, and fear, financial fraud highlights the need for awareness programs and he requested young participants to take utmost care while doing financial transactions. He added that youth have a significant advantage in spreading awareness about financial frauds, especially through social media platforms.

Ms. Priti Singh gave presentation on all the aspects of Financial Frauds & Prevention and shared an overview of some of the most common forms of financial fraud in the banking industry like phishing, vishing, ATM card skimming, QR code scam, SIM swapping, juice jacking, identity theft, credential theft, biometrics spoofing, impersonation, lottery frauds, investment frauds and job scams.

Mr. Simranjit Singh, Assistant, RBI briefed the scheme which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2021. He gave an overview of the Ombudsman scheme, its history and mentioned that any customer aggrieved by an act or omission of a regulated entity resulting in a deficiency in service can file a complaint under the scheme.

Dr. Pooja Jain appreciated the awareness programme that would safeguard the youth from financial frauds and thanked all officials from RBI and PHDCCI for collaboratively organizing such an interactive and informative session for the benefit of faculty and students of the institute.

Ms. Babeeta Sharma moderated the session & Mr. Sanjay Ahuja, Joint Secretary, PHDCCI coordinated the whole programme.

A quiz was organized during the event, based on the content covered in the sessions. The program saw participation of a large number of students and faculty to learn more about cyber security and financial frauds.

ANAROCK Survey: 31percent Women Buy Homes for Investment, 69percent as End-Users

Mumbai, 27 February 2025: While women have always been the key decision-makers in the home-buying process in India, they now increasingly make independent, individual property purchases, according to the latest ANAROCK Consumer Sentiment Survey from H2 2024. A significant majority of them are end-users, though investors are not far behind.

AI-generated content may be incorrect.” With growing independence and higher disposable incomes, women are increasingly coming to the housing market as convinced investors,” says Anuj Puri, Chairman – ANAROCK Group. “Our H2 2024 survey finds the end-use-to-investment ratio for women homebuyers at 69:31 against 79:21 in the H2 2022 edition. Even more remarkable is their firm preference for housing over the other popular investment asset classes Indians gravitate to.”

For at least 70% of women survey respondents, real estate is the most preferred investment asset class, against 65% in the H2 2022 edition and 57% in the pre-Covid (H2 2019) survey. Women’s preference for stock market investment has declined to just 2% in H2 2024, from over 20% in H2 2022.

“Considering the significant decline seen in the stock market in recent months in contrast to the bull run in 2022, women have unerringly picked the winning ticket in housing,” says Puri. “The only other asset class that has seen a notable uptick on their wish list is gold, whose popularity among polled women investors has risen from 8% in the H2 2022 survey to slightly over 12% in the H2 2024 edition.”

The survey also tracks women homebuyers’ budget preferences – in the H2 2024 survey. At least 52% of women respondents preferred premium or luxury homes priced >INR 90 lakhs. In the H2 2022 survey, about 47% of women respondents picked this budget category. 33% of aspiring women homebuyers look for properties priced between INR 90 lakh and INR 1.5 Cr, while 11% prefer homes priced between INR 1.5 Cr and INR 2.5 Cr. Interestingly, at least 8% prefer to buy homes priced >INR 2.5 Cr – a strong testament to the growth of India’s women HNI contingent

Demand for newly launched properties is on the rise – over 18% of the survey’s women respondents now prefer under-construction homes, against 10% in the H2 2022 survey. Their preference for the instant gratification of ready-to-move-in homes had declined to 29% in the H2 2024 survey, from 48% in H2 2022. This is a clear indicator of a strengthening investment approach among India’s women property buyers. It also highlights that the fact that most new launches are by large and listed developers gives them the confidence to back cheaper under-construction properties with an eye on future profits.
