Pune, Aug 19: With diabetes, obesity and their associated metabolic complications emerging as major healthcare challenges, DOSTI (Diabetes Obesity Society Transformation Initiative) is set to organise DOSTICON 2026 – National Diabesity Conclave on 22 and 23 August 2026 at Hotel Regenta Central, Jagnade Square, Nagpur.
The two-day national conclave will be held with the theme “Goodbye Diabesity, Goodbye Diabetic Foot”, bringing together leading medical professionals, national faculty and experts from across India to deliberate on contemporary approaches to diabetes, obesity, diabetic foot care and related metabolic health concerns. The conference is being organised by DOSTI in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Association of Physicians of India (API), Indian Podiatry Association, Ajmeru Diabetes Society and Diabetic Association of India, and in collaboration with the International Diabetes Experts Consortium (IDEC), Pune. The organising team comprises Dr. Ajay Kaduskar, Organising Co-Chairman, DOSTICON 2026; Dr. Abhishek Pande, Organising Co-Chairman; and Dr. Kedar Deshpande, Organising Secretary, DOSTICON 2026.
Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, National President, DOSTI and Organising Chairman of DOSTICON 2026, said that the conclave aims to strengthen a comprehensive understanding of diabesity and its complications while creating a platform for doctors and healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, clinical experiences and emerging management strategies.
“Diabetes and obesity cannot be looked at in isolation. They are interconnected metabolic health challenges that require early identification, appropriate medical intervention, sustainable lifestyle changes and long-term patient engagement. Through DOSTICON 2026, we want to bring experts together to share scientific knowledge and practical approaches that can help improve patient outcomes and strengthen the prevention and management of diabesity and diabetic foot complications,” said Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh.
Integrated approach to diabetes and obesity
Diabetes is a chronic condition in which blood glucose levels remain elevated, with Type 2 diabetes being the most common form. Its development is influenced by multiple factors, including genetics, lifestyle, physical inactivity, dietary patterns, increasing age and family history. Importantly, diabetes can also occur in individuals who are not overweight, making regular health assessment and timely diagnosis essential.
Similarly, obesity is a complex chronic health condition influenced by several factors, including genetics, dietary habits, sedentary behaviour, inadequate sleep, stress, certain medications and hormonal or metabolic factors. Obesity can increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, hypertension, sleep-related disorders and other metabolic complications.
Dr. Deshmukh advocates an integrated, patient-centred approach that goes beyond merely controlling blood glucose or reducing body weight. Such an approach includes early diagnosis, personalised treatment, balanced nutrition, physical activity, weight management, appropriate medication, stress and sleep management and regular screening for complications.
“The objective of diabetes care should not be restricted to achieving a particular blood sugar number. We must look at the complete health of the patient and work towards protecting vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, eyes and nerves. Patient education and empowerment are equally important because sustainable improvement depends on informed and active participation by the patient,” Dr. Deshmukh added.
Focus on diabetic foot and prevention
One of the key themes of DOSTICON 2026 is diabetic foot care, reflected in the conference theme, “Goodbye Diabesity, Goodbye Diabetic Foot.” Early identification of foot-related risks, appropriate assessment, patient education and timely intervention are important components of comprehensive diabetes management.
The conclave will provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals to engage with national experts and discuss contemporary clinical approaches and management strategies related to diabesity and diabetic foot. The brochure features a large national faculty representing Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad, Jabalpur, New Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Ajmer, Lucknow and Hisar, among other locations.
National platform for professional learning
According to the DOSTICON 2026 brochure, the scientific programme has been designed to provide academic learning, clinical updates and management strategies, along with opportunities for interactive learning and professional networking. The conference has also been applied for 4 MMC Credit Hours.
The conclave will also feature physical oral and poster presentations, with the scientific programme encouraging structured academic submissions and case-based learning.
DOSTICON 2026 is expected to provide a platform not only for medical professionals but also for the wider healthcare ecosystem to understand the importance of prevention, early intervention and multidisciplinary management of diabetes, obesity and diabetic foot complications.
Dr. Deshmukh, who leads the Jyotirmay Diabesity and EveCare Centre, Nagpur, believes that greater awareness among both healthcare professionals and the public can play a crucial role in addressing the growing burden of metabolic diseases.
“We need to move from a disease-centred approach to a health-centred approach. Early screening, prevention, appropriate treatment, lifestyle modification and continuous patient counselling can collectively make a meaningful difference. DOSTICON 2026 is an effort to advance this conversation and contribute to the future of diabesity care in India,” he said.
