SRM Global Hospital Organises Two Sports Injury Conclaves for Physiotherapists and Coaches

The Chennai Sports Injury Conclave for Physiotherapists focused on contemporary concepts related to sports medicine such as prevention of sports injuries, rehabilitation, biomechanical assessment, and evidence-based treatment strategies. Multiple lecturers, case-study discussions, and hands-on workshops were held at the conclave to enhance the practical skills of physiotherapists. More than 150 physiotherapists from across Tamil Nadu attended the event.

The Chennai Sports Injury Conclave for Coaches focused on empowering coaches and athletes with scientific knowledge that are vital for preventing injuries and optimising performance. Eminent personalities from various fields including medicine, sports psychology, sports nutrition, biomechanics and sports science took part in the conclave along with over 200 coaches and fitness trainers.

At the conclave, experts emphasised the importance of adopting a multidisciplinary approach to prevent sports injuries. They also highlighted the roles of training load management, nutrition, mental well-being, biomechanics, and early injury identification in ensuring the athletes’ well-being and enhancing their performance.

Both the conclaves were chaired by Dr. Saseendar Shanmugasundaram, and Dr. Samundeeswari Saseendar, Consultants, Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine, at SRM Global Hospital. Dr. M. Chandrasekar, COO of SRM Global Hospitals presided over the conclave for physiotherapists, while Prof. Mohana Krishnan, Director of Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, was the chief guest at the conclave for coaches.

Speaking about the conclave, Dr. Samundeeswari said,

“For the first time in Tamil Nadu, we have organised conclaves specifically for sports injuries. Sports medicine is not a branch of medical science that is useful only for athletes. It is for everyone right from children to elderly people. Many don’t know whom to approach when they have issues in joints, wrists, or hips. In such cases, the injuries and numbness at joints can be due to ligament tear. People might approach physiotherapists or orthopaedics for temporary relief. But it often requires holistic treatment including psychological counselling, biomedical assessment, food and nutrition.”

In his comments Dr. Saseendar said,

“Sports injuries are specific joint injuries and are quite severe. It is vital to do right diagnosis and right treatment for speedy normalisation of the joints. Else, it becomes an overused injury and causes severe pain. We are opting for minimally invasive surgeries and other advanced techniques which in turn expediates the recovery.”

“The demand for structured education in sports injury prevention and management has been increasing consistently. So, it is vital to empower physiotherapists, coaches, and athletes with evidence-based knowledge both to create a safer sporting environment and to improve athletic outcomes,” he added

“SRM global hospitals have been adopting a novel approach to ensure safe and complete recovery of athletes from their injuries. We have been leading the way in treating advanced sports surgeries. We pioneer several minimally invasive or arthroscopic repairs for ligament tears, and have gained expertise in stem cell regenerative techniques,”

said Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, President – SRM Global Hospitals.

Participants appreciated the high academic standards, practical relevance, and interactive nature of the conclaves. Delegates were given with accreditation certificates upon completion of the conclave. With this, SRM marks another significant milestone towards advancing sports medicine education, sports injury prevention and promoting athlete welfare in the country.
