Kotak Mahindra Bank-SEEDS Restore Flood-Damaged Orphanage in Tripura

Delhi, March 24, 2025: SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society), with support from Kotak Mahindra Bank, successfully restored Alor Dishari Ghar, an orphanage in Udaipur, Tripura, that was severely damaged by the floods in August 2024. The refurbishment has reinstated a safe and functional living space for 50 children.

The flooding on August 18, 2024, caused widespread damage across Tripura, with rising water submerging the orphanage. While the children were safely evacuated, the facility suffered extensive damage to dormitories, kitchens, and learning materials.

Following a needs assessment, SEEDS in collaboration with Kotak Mahindra Bank implemented a comprehensive restoration plan over six months. The work included repairing and repainting damaged walls, reconstructing dormitories, and replacing essential furniture and equipment to create a safe and conducive environment for the children to live and learn.

A handover ceremony celebrating the completion of restoration was held on March 20, 2025, bringing together representatives from the district administration, SEEDS, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and the local community.

Himanshu Nivsarkar, Head CSR and Environmental, Social, and Governance said, “At Kotak, we believe that building strong communities is central to our mission. The renovation of Alor Ghar is not just about restoring a physical space – it’s about bringing sustainable impact that supports the lives of the people.”

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Manu Gupta, Co-Founder of SEEDS, said, “More than just reconstructing a building, this effort was about bringing back a sense of normalcy for the children. With their daily rhythms back on track, they can focus on learning, playing, and growing in an environment that truly supports their future.”

The successful restoration of Alor Dishari Ghar demonstrates how collaborative efforts can rebuild communities and strengthen resilience in disaster-affected regions.
