New Delhi, Aug 4: The government has said that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are carrying out rigorous quality checks on E20 fuel, with samples being tested up to 12 times a day to ensure compliance with prescribed quality standards.
The frequent testing is part of the government's efforts to maintain fuel quality as India accelerates the rollout of 20 per cent ethanol-blended petrol (E20) under its clean energy and energy security initiatives.
According to the government, OMCs have established a robust quality monitoring mechanism covering the procurement, storage, transportation and retail distribution of E20 fuel. Regular laboratory testing and field inspections are conducted to ensure that fuel supplied to consumers meets the required specifications.
Officials said continuous monitoring helps maintain vehicle compatibility, fuel performance and consumer confidence while supporting the nationwide transition towards cleaner and more sustainable fuels.
The expansion of E20 fuel is a key component of India's ethanol blending programme, which aims to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, lower carbon emissions, support domestic biofuel production and enhance farmers' income through increased demand for ethanol feedstock.
The government said stringent quality assurance measures will continue to be implemented as E20 availability expands across the country, ensuring safe and reliable fuel supplies for consumers.
The initiative reflects India's broader commitment to promoting cleaner mobility, strengthening energy security and advancing the transition towards a more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
