Rourkela, 27th August: Despite global economic challenges, including recession-induced layoffs, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela students have achieved strong placement and internship outcomes in the recently concluded 2025–26 placement drive.
Across various academic programmes, students received a total of 1,340 placement offers and 364 six-month internship offers, providing opportunities for potential Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) upon successful completion of their internships.
In addition, pre-final-year students secured a record 258 summer internships, marking the highest number of summer internship offers in the Institute's history. These internships are expected to provide further opportunities for PPOs during the upcoming placement season.

The placement drive witnessed exceptional outcomes across various academic programs, reflecting the strong industry demand for the Institute’s talented graduates.
For the B.Tech. program, the highest CTC recorded this year was ₹131.00 lakh per annum (LPA), followed by ₹83.60 LPA Computer Science and Engineering (CS) students. The B.Tech. program recorded an average CTC of ₹15.33 LPA and a median CTC of ₹12.50 LPA.
The M.Tech. program also recorded impressive placement outcomes, with the highest CTC of ₹46.38 LPA offered to a student from the Computer Science and Engineering (CS) branch, followed by ₹44.00 LPA from the Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) branch. The program recorded an average CTC of ₹11.90 LPA and a median CTC of ₹9.00 LPA.
The internship season was equally encouraging, with the highest internship stipend reaching ₹1.50 lakh per month (LPM). Notably, more than 83 students secured annual packages exceeding ₹30 LPA, underscoring the exceptional talent and professional readiness of the students.
These achievements reflect the strong academic foundation, technical competence, and professional preparedness of NIT Rourkela students, while also highlighting the Institute’s sustained efforts to strengthen industry–academia collaboration and expand high-quality career opportunities across diverse sectors. The impressive placement and internship outcomes reaffirm the Institute’s commitment to nurturing future-ready professionals equipped to meet the evolving needs of industry and society.
Key highlights of this year’s placement drive include:
Ø The B.Tech. placement is 95.47%, with all registered candidates in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering securing placement opportunities.
Ø Six other major programmes- Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Industrial Design, and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering also achieved placement rates above 90%. These results highlight the strong placement performance across both core engineering and interdisciplinary programmes.
The 2025–26 placement drive at NIT Rourkela witnessed participation from 374 recruiters, with approximately 50% being first-time recruiters. The majority of participating companies were from the Software and IT Services sector, followed by Manufacturing, BFSI, Electronics, and Education, among others.
Highlighting the placement trends, Prof. Surajit Das, Head, Career Development Centre (CDC), NIT Rourkela, said, “The core sector emerged as the leading recruiter, accounting for 41.69% of the total job offers. The Software & IT sector led placements with a 17.79% share, followed by Power and Heavy (13.77%), BFSI (11.52%), Analytics and Consulting (9.5%), Electronics, Semiconductor and VLSI (8.40%), Education (7.23%), Manufacturing (8.09%), and Oil and Gas (7.86%). The remaining share was contributed by emerging domains such as Aerospace, Automobile, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Construction, Electrical/Electronics, Engineering Consulting, FMCG, Healthcare, Mining, NPO, Pharmaceutical, Robotics, and Telecommunication. Key job roles offered during the placement drive included Software Engineer, Software Development Engineer, Hardware Engineer, Graduate Trainee Engineer, Data Analyst, and Business Analyst, among others. Our dedicated team of student placement secretaries, placement coordinators, and faculty coordinators of the Career Development Centre worked diligently to achieve this significant outcome.”
The top recruiters included Aditya Birla Group (ABG), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), JSW Group, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Limited, ZS Associates, Vedanta Resources Limited, Texas Instruments, ExxonMobil, Reliance Industries Limited, TATA Consultancy Services (NQT), Deloitte USI, Cairn Oil and Gas, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Accenture, Deutsche India, TATA Steel Limited (TSL), ICICI Bank, Fluxion, Teradata, NatWest, Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL), TATA Motors, iServeU, Qualcomm, and several others.
