July 29: A delegation from the Quantum Materials and Devices Foundation visited Amity University to explore opportunities for collaboration under the Amity Quantum Mission. The delegation comprised of Mr. Aditya Vyas, Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Jagruti Dwivedi, Technology Manager, QMD Foundation.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Aditya Vyas said that the Quantum Materials and Devices Foundation is a non-profit organization established at IIT Delhi under the National Quantum Mission of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Foundation serves as a premier thematic hub dedicated to quantum materials and devices, with the objective of advancing indigenous technologies, advanced materials, and innovative devices for quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing through research and development.
He further stated that the Foundation is committed to building a robust quantum ecosystem and developing a skilled workforce by fostering collaboration among academic institutions, industries, and startups. Its key objective is to promote indigenous development of advanced technologies such as semiconductor quantum devices, superconductors, and topological materials. Currently, around 250 faculty members are engaged in research under the National Quantum Mission. The Foundation also serves as a leading national authority in the field and is actively collaborating with institutions across eight countries.
Mr. Vyas highlighted the growing career opportunities for students in emerging areas such as Post-Quantum Cryptography, which focuses on developing advanced encryption algorithms capable of protecting data against threats posed by future quantum computers, and Quantum Algorithms, which are algorithms designed to run on realistic models of quantum computation, with the quantum circuit model being the most widely used framework. During the visit, the delegation also reviewed the research programmes being undertaken under the Amity Quantum Mission.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation said that Amity University is at the forefront of advancing quantum science and technology in India. With a strong emphasis on research, innovation, and capacity building, the University is committed to contributing significantly to India's technological leadership in the emerging quantum era. He added that the Amity Quantum Mission is a strategic initiative aimed at establishing Amity as a national and global centre of excellence in quantum science, engineering, and technology. The initiative is closely aligned with India's National Quantum Mission, which seeks to transform cutting-edge research into funded projects, industry collaborations, and human capital development, thereby nurturing the next generation of quantum scientists and innovators.
On the occasion, Dr. V. K. Jain, Scientist, Dr. M. S. Prasad, Director Amity Institute of Space Science & Technology, Dr. J. K. Rai, Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amity University, and others presented an overview of the ongoing research programmes and initiatives being carried out under the Amity Quantum Mission.
