Udupi Cochin Shipyard Marks Milestone with Inaugural Export Order for Wilson ASA, Norway

17th December 2024   Udupi, Karnataka, India   Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited, the wholly owned subsidiary of India’s leading shipyard – Cochin Shipyard Limited, has today launched the Inaugural vessel of the Series of Six nos 3800 TDW General Cargo Vessel being built for M/s. Wilson ASA, Norway. This launch underscores the CSL group’s commitment to the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” initiative, as well as the “Make in India” and “Make for the World” programs of Government of India.

Ms. Martine Aamdal Bottheim, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy, had the honors of launching the vessel, accompanied by Mr. Einar Tornes, Chief Financial Officer of Wilson ASA. The event was also graced by the presence of Shri Madhu S. Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited; Shri Bejoy Bhaskar, Director (Technical) at Cochin Shipyard; Shri Harikumar A., Chief Executive Officer of Udupi-Cochin Shipyard Limited; and other senior personnel from the shipyard.

Wilson ASA, a company headquartered in Bergen, Norway, is the leading short sea fleet operator in Europe and transports about 15 million tonnes dry cargo across Europe. The Company operates a fleet of around 130 vessels ranging from 1500 to 8500 DWT.

Wilson ASA, has further signed a follow on order of 8 nos of 6300 TDW Dry Cargo Vessels as two batches in June 2024 and September 2024, totalling to 14 vessels. The projects are under various stages of construction.

Since takeover of the Yard by Cochin Shipyard Limited, UCSL has successfully delivered two 62T Bollard Pull Tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited, an Adani Harbor Services Limited Company and two 70T Bollard Pull Tug to Polestar Maritime Limited, UCSL has also received further orders of four 70T Bollard Pull Tugs as repeat orders from Ocean Sparkle Limited (three) and Polestar Maritime Limited (one).

The Vessel has a length of 89.43 Meters, Breadth of 13.2 meters and has a draft of 4.2meters. The Vessels designed by Conoship International, Netherlands are constructed as environment friendly diesel electric vessels for the transport of general cargo in the coastal waters of Europe.

16th December 2024  Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India  Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav held significant discussions with Shri Rajinder Gupta, Chairman of Trident Group, regarding investment opportunities and industrial expansion in the textile sector. The meeting took place during the “Invest Madhya Pradesh”: Regional Industry Conclave, Narmadapuram, underscoring the state’s growing stature as a preferred destination for industrial development.

While addressing the gathering at the event, Shri Rajinder Gupta expressed his gratitude to the Madhya Pradesh government, he highlighted Trident’s remarkable journey in the state. “We ventured into Madhya Pradesh a few years ago and invested Rs. 5,000 crores. Today, our finished products from Madhya Pradesh are exported to 122 countries, with demand continually rising,” he shared.

Looking ahead, Shri Gupta announced Trident Group’s plans to invest an additional Rs. 3,000 crores in the state’s textile sector which will expand employment opportunities here at Trident Group from current 12,000 to over 15,000.

“We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of our operations stay within Madhya Pradesh, from sourcing cotton to producing finished goods. The state is an ideal confluence of sustainability, inclusive growth, and green energy, with immense potential for solar and wind energy development,” Shri Gupta said. He also emphasized Trident’s focus on skill development and women empowerment, with 50% of new employment opportunities reserved for women.

Praising the Chief Minister’s visionary leadership, Shri Gupta noted that fostering collaboration between intellectuals and industrialists has energized innovation and regional development. This initiative reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s reputation as a hub for sustainable industrial growth and inclusive progress, further cementing its appeal to investors worldwide.

The event featured 11 carefully curated student collections, ranging from knitwear, zero-waste designs, and heritage Indian textiles to fusion wear, streetwear, athleisure, and avant-garde styles. Each collection highlighted diverse design approaches, with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and fresh perspectives on fashion.

The show was attended by notable industry figures, including Ujjawal Dubey, Founder & Creative Director of Antar-Agni, and Yvette Joan Noethen and Javier Reyes, International Recruiters from The Walt Disney Company. Their presence highlighted the global reach and importance of the event. The collections were brought to life with choreography, music, and production entirely managed by students, guided by faculty mentors, showcasing Chitkara University’s hands-on approach to education.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, spoke about the importance of nurturing creativity and innovation in fashion. She stated, “Our students are being trained to not only excel in design but also to be aware of the need for sustainable, forward-thinking solutions in the fashion industry. EMERGE is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their capabilities and engage with global industry leaders.”

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Best Graduate Collection award to Anshika Gupta for her avant-garde collection Altered Perspectives. Inspired by organic architecture, Gupta’s work impressed for its unique blend of form, function, and sustainable design.

The event also reflected Chitkara University’s focus on experiential learning, empowering students to push creative boundaries while preparing them for the evolving demands of the fashion industry.
