Goa Celebrates World Tourism Day 2025 with Month-Long Focus on Regenerative, Inclusive Tourism

Goa, September 26th 2025 — India’s most iconic travel destination, Goa, has set a benchmark in regenerative and inclusive tourism by commemorating World Tourism Day 2025 with a month-long celebration of meaningful, community-driven experiences.

Agaud Jail Complex

Organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, in collaboration with the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), SKAL International Goa, and the Yuva Tourism Clubs, the initiative brought together locals, students, industry stakeholders, and visitors through a diverse calendar of activities focusing on culture, nature, heritage, and accessibility.

Celebrating Goa Beyond Beaches

Throughout September, participants were encouraged to explore the lesser-known side of Goa—beyond its beaches—through bioluminescent forest walks, kayaking, river cruises, heritage walks at Aguad and Monte Santo, and hands-on village experiences such as bread-making and coconut farming. These events engaged over 200 people and reflected the state’s commitment to regenerative tourism—a model that enriches communities while preserving Goa’s ecological and cultural wealth.

Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said: “World Tourism Day is about celebrating people, culture, and sustainability. Goa is embracing new experiences while creating opportunities for our youth, communities, and industry. Together, we are shaping a tourism ecosystem that is vibrant, inclusive, and future-ready.”

Youth at the Centre of Change

A key feature of the month was the active participation of Goa’s youth. Over 100 students from 30+ colleges engaged in eco-walks, culinary events, and cycling tours under the Yuva Tourism Clubs initiative. These experiences aim to nurture a new generation of Tourism Ambassadors who are passionate about sustainability and cultural preservation.

Tourism for All: Inclusive Experiences

True to its inclusive vision, the Tourism Department organised special boat cruises for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and children from orphanages, reinforcing its commitment to making tourism accessible and joyful for all.

Spotlight on Culinary & MICE Tourism

Adding a gastronomic touch, cooking competitions at IIHM Goa and IHM Goa celebrated Goa’s rich food heritage and promoted emerging talent in hospitality. Another milestone was the Tourism Stakeholders’ Meet at Grand Hyatt Goa, where the MICE Promotion Bureau was officially launched, positioning the state as a hub for global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions.

Cinematic Finale & Strong Tourism Growth

The celebrations will conclude with a Film Festival at ESG on September 28, spotlighting Goa’s biodiversity, cultural heritage, and conservation efforts.

Goa’s tourism growth continues to surge. From January to June 2025, the state welcomed 5.45 million visitors (including 0.27 million international arrivals)—an 8.4% year-on-year increase. With expanding air connectivity, cruise tourism, and renewed global interest, Goa is poised for a robust Golden Season 2025–26.

Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, stated: “These activities reflect a holistic approach to tourism—one that uplifts communities, respects nature, and prepares the youth to lead. It’s a collective effort to redefine Goa’s tourism narrative beyond beaches, into meaningful, immersive experiences.”
