Ishita Ganguly’s Chamkeeli Set to Be the Next Icon After Komolika

Some characters in Indian television leave a lasting impact—be it their iconic style, cunning ways, or memorable dialogues. One such unforgettable character is Komolika, played by Urvashi Dholakia, who redefined the on-screen vamp with her glamorous and bold persona. Now, actress Ishita Ganguly is stepping into the spotlight with a character that promises to rival such legends. As Chamkeeli in Shemaroo Umang’s Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain, Ishita is ready to set the screen on fire with her fierce and mesmerizing presence.

Chamkeeli is not an ordinary character. With her striking scorpion tattoo, bold earrings, ring on her lips, and dazzling maangtika, she demands attention. Ishita herself is thrilled about playing this role, she said, “Chamkeeli is bold, fierce, and unapologetic. She believes every ruthless action she takes is justified to achieve her goals. I drew inspiration from Urvashi Dholakia’s Komolika, who made vamps glamorous and iconic. While Komolika is a benchmark, I’m hopeful that Chamkeeli will leave her own mark. Her look, her personality, and her dialogue ‘Chamkeeli jab chamake hai na, tab ache ache ka bulbva fuse ho jaave hai’ make her fun to play. From her mangtika to her tattoo, every detail of her look has me excited—the stylist and the makeup team have done a fabulous job!”

For Ishita, Chamkeeli’s look and persona have been a unique experience. “I’ve done many shows before, but none of them excited me as much as this. Everything about Chamkeeli, from her appearance to her personality, is fascinating. Even the makeup room is fun because the process of getting into Chamkeeli’s look is a whole vibe!”

At the core of Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain is the intense rivalry between Chamkeeli and Chaina for the haveli’s legacy. While Chaina fights for justice and tradition, Chamkeeli uses cunning and manipulation to achieve her goals. This clash of right versus wrong creates a rollercoaster of drama, emotions, and shocking twists that will leave audiences hooked

Avinash Tiwary Reveals Why ‘The Mehta Boys’ Script Was Impossible to Resist

“The moment I read it, I knew that if I truly considered myself an artist, there was no way I could let go of this script”- Avinash Tiwary reveals his first reaction to the script of Prime Video’s The Mehta Boys

Prime Video’s upcoming Original movie, The Mehta Boys has already made waves on the film festival circuit with its deeply moving portrayal of the complexities of a father-son relationship. Ahead of its highly anticipated global premiere on the service, the film has piqued audiences’ curiosity with an emotionally charged trailer. Brought to life by a talented ensemble cast, including Boman Irani, Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry, and Puja Sarup in key roles, The Mehta Boys promises to leave an emotional impact on viewers with universal themes of self-discovery, familial bonds, complex human relationships. Avinash Tiwary steps into the role of Amay, a junior architect navigating a decade-long struggle to establish his career.

In an exclusive conversation, Avinash reveals his first reaction to the compelling script of The Mehta Boys and opens up about his experience working with veteran actor-turned-director, Boman Irani.

He revealed, “The moment I read it, I knew that if I truly considered myself an artist, there was no way I could let go of this script—I had to be a part of this film.I wasn’t sure how it would unfold until I met Boman Sir. He asked me to read a scene, and that’s when something magical happened. He stood up, I stood up, and before I knew it, he was giving me instructions, and I was responding instinctively. It all just clicked at that moment.Honestly this kind of creative connection is very rare and I knew we are on to something special.”

Recalling the rehearsal process, Avinash further added, “From that moment on, he made sure I harboured the same resentment toward him that Amay feels for his father in the film. He ensured I carried that feeling throughout. I know that most people who have worked with Boman Sir see him as a friend and mentor, but we intentionally created a different equation. I wasn’t supposed to see him as a friend. Every bit of Amay’s emotions—the struggle with authority, longing for validation, the unresolved tension—I lived off-screen too. Even now, I think a part of me is still that guy, who is seeking validation from Boman Irani.”

Marking Boman Irani’s directorial debut, The Mehta Boys is an Irani Movietone LLP production in association with Chalkboard Entertainment LLP. Boman Irani has also co-produced the film with Danesh Irani, Vikesh Bhutani, and Shujaat Saudagar, and co-written it with Academy Award winner Alexander Dinelaris. The Mehta Boys is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on February 7, in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Wasim Akram DP World ILT20 Competition is Fierce

Chandigarh, February 04 2025: With the battlelines drawn for the DP World ILT20 Season 3 finale, Pakistan bowling legend and former captain Wasim Akram put his weight behind the Desert Vipers to outshine. While the Vipers were the first team in this season to book a berth in the play-offs with their dominating show with the bat and the ball, defending champions MI Emirates finished second in the points table to qualify. Sharjah Warriorz and Dubai Capitals became the third team and fourth team respectively to sneak into the play-offs after their commanding victories on Super Sunday buoyed by incredible crowd support during the double-header held in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Underscoring the fierce competition to find a place in the top four, Akram said, “I love coming here for the DP World ILT20. I have thoroughly enjoyed being here as a commentator and watch closely some very fresh talent coming out of this league.

Until yesterday, we only had one team sure of their place in the play-offs. This shows the quality of the competition here; it shows the consistency of the wickets. There were five teams who still stood a chance to make it to the top four.”

With seven wins from nine games, Desert Vipers have been in top form through the league stage and have turned their performance around this season after a poor outing last edition. “For me, Desert Vipers are my favourite team and there is a reason why they are my favourite,” he further explained. “It is not because they are table toppers but because they had three Pakistani players in their squad and we saw some good performances from them in the league stage. Though Azam Khan needs to fire yet but we still have another week’s play left where he could score a quick-fire 50 to help his team win,” Akram expressed.

With the league providing a golden opportunity for the UAE players to rub shoulders with global icons of the game, Akram believes the exposure is paying off with players like Muhammad Waseem, Aayan Afzal Khan and Muhammad Rohid living up to the billing. “There are quite a few UAE players who have stood out this season. Waseem has been quite consistent as an opener and he is quite senior. If we were to speak about fast bowlers, then Rohid is doing well. Aayan came in, scored a six to help his team win by chasing. He has been a good all-rounder for his team.”

“What I look forward to from these young players is to take the experience from here, be consistent and be on top of the ladder in their performance. Spending over a month with some of the best players in the world is a big bonus for them. They should be learning about their mindset, how they train and what they eat. The vision behind this league is to groom players for UAE and that is happening. It is now time for UAE to be one of the top performers among Associate Member nations,” Akram signed off.
